The Fruitport baseball team is suddenly riding a four-game winning streak after sweeping a pair of games from Traverse City Central on Friday.

The Trojans won the opener 3-0. Pitcher Satchel Norwood tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing only two hits and three walks while striking out five.

Fruitport scored its runs in the first, third and fifth innings. Brady French and Braxton Ward had RBI singles while Jax Flynn worked his way to two walks.

The great pitching continued in Game 2 when Avery Lamers started and tossed 5 1/3 innings of six-hit ball. He struck out five and allowed only one walk.

The Trojans pounded out 15 hits. Christian Kennedy and Brady French had three hits apiece while Trevor Rusnak, Ricky Wiggins and Flynn each had two.

“It’s been a productive week and a lot of different players are stepping up and making a difference,” said Fruitport head coach Nick Reed, whose team has won five of the last six games. “The boys are really playing complementary baseball and executing.”

Fruitport, now 8-5, will play a three-game series this week against Hudsonville Unity Christian in O-K Blue conference action. There will be a doubleheader on Tuesday at Fruitport and a single game on Thursday in Hudsonville.eddie
