Maddie Kohnke knocked in Maddie Prout with the winning run in the eighth inning on Tuesday, giving the recently hot Fruitport softball team an exciting 6-5 victory over rival Spring Lake in O-K Blue conference action.

The Trojans also won the second game of the doubleheader, 15-7, after rallying from an early five-run deficit.

Fruitport has now won six of its last seven games.

Game 1 was tied 5-5 through the regular seven innings before Kohnke knocked in Prout to settle the issue.

Prout had three hits in the game, including two doubles. Her last double set up the winning run.

Brooklyn Russell pitched the victory, scattering seven hits and striking out nine.

In Game 2, Fruitport trailed 6-1 after two innings but scored five runs with two outs in the third to get back in teh game. Kendall Lee, Kalli Tawney, Prout, Kya Tawney and Kohnke had big hits in the inning.

The Trojans added three more runs in the fourth inning, Prout delivered the big hit with a double.

Fruitport added five more runs in the seventh inning – once again with two outs – to run away with the comeback victory.

Kallie Tawney and Prout hit doubles to help keep the big inning alive while Ashton Olson, Lee and Kohnke hit singles.

Russell pitched yet another win in the second game, scattering 11 hits while striking out four.

Fruitport is now 15-10 on the season.
