The Fruitport softball team has struggled a bit in O-K Blue conference play, but the Trojans feast on non-league opponents.

The latest examples came on Thursday and Friday when the Trojans posted a 3-0 record against opponents from outside the O-K Blue conference.

On Thursday Fruitport hit the road and swept Ludington in a doubleheader, 16-1 and 12-8.

Fruitport took control in Game 1 right away, scoring six runs in the first inning and seven in the second.

Ashton Olson

In the first inning, Brooklyn Russell doubled, Ashton Olson doubled while Kalli Tawney and Maddie Prout both hit singles.

In the second, big hits came on home runs by Olson and Prout and a two-run single from Tatum Anderson.

The Trojans picked up three more runs in the third inning and the game ended on the mercy rule.

Russell got the win, striking out seven and walking none in three innings.

Maddie Prout

In Game 2, Fruitport jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added four in the second, one in the third, three in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Russell got the win on the mound, striking out eight and walking none over seven innings.

On Friday the Trojans kept it going with a 20-8 victory over Montague that was actually an extra innings thriller.

Fruitport had an early lead before Montague tied the score 8-8 in the fifth inning.

Brooklyn Russell

The Wildcats loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Trojans held them scoreless when Russell struck out two batters then coaxed the third into a groundout.

Fruitport then broke loose in the top of the ninth with 12 runs to earn the victory.

Tawney and Prout each had four hits for the Trojans while Kendall Lee, Maddie Kohnke and Anderson each had three.

Russell pitched all eight innings, striking out 14.
