The Fruitport girls soccer team has not been scoring very many goals lately, but on Friday it turned out that one was enough.

The Trojans scored in the first half and goalie Riley Kettel and the defense posted a shutout, giving Fruitport an exciting 1-0 victory over Lowell in non-conference action.

The win broke a four-game losing streak for Fruitport, which is now 2-4 on the season.

The Fruitport goal came when Rhiannon Raleigh made a shot, forcing the Lowell goalie to make a diving save. Violet Olinghouse then got the rebound and put it in the net for the only score of the game.

The Trojans only had two shots on goal, compared to eight for Lowell, but still went home with the victory.

Fruitport’s Mallory Smith. Jorja Blackmer, Izzy Hanson-Wilbur, Morgan Wescott, Gracelyn Olson and McKenzie Pate were credited with strong defensive play.

“The team has been talking about putting together a full 80 minutes,” said Fruitport Coach Kyle Hall. “Despite having several players out due to injury, we were able to dig in and get the result with a solid team effort.”
