Heading into its rivalry game against Spring Lake on Monday, the Fruitport girls soccer team used its typically strong defense and just enough scoring to beat Ludington 2-0 on Friday.

The game was scoreless at halftime, then Mallory Smith broke the deadlock with a goal from 18 yards out. Morgan Wescott scored the second goal, putting the game away for the Trojans.

Fruitport goalie Riley Kittel was credited with making some big saves when necessary.

“Patience and composure paid off tonight,” said Fruitport Coach Kyle Hall after the game.

The Trojans are now 3-5-1 overall. They will try to win their first O-K Blue conference game at home against the rival Lakers.eddie
