The Fruitport baseball team fell 3-2 to Allendale on Tuesday in a hard-fought O-K Blue conference matchup.

The two teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the second game was postponed until Thursday due to lightning. The teams will play two games to wrap up the three-game series.

Pitcher Trevor Rusnak had a solid day on the mound for Fruitport, striking out three and allowing three earned runs on six hits over six innings.

Christian Kennedy led the offensive effort with two of the Trojans’ eight hits.

Fruitport gained the lead in the first inning after Brady French singled before coming around to score.

Allendale responded with a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-1 lead that proved to be enough.

Fruitport cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth inning but was unable to get the tying run.

Fruitport is now 4-6 overall on the season and 2-5 in conference play.eddie
