The Fruitport baseball team kept battling to the end in both games of its doubleheader against Allendale on Thursday, and it paid off in a pair of O-K Blue conference victories.

The Trojans won the opener 4-3, then rallied from a six-run deficit to win 14-10 in the nightcap.

With Game 1 tied 3-3 in the eighth inning, Fruitport’s Braxton Ward doubled, stole third, then scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Ward, Brady French and Trevor Rusnak all knocked in single runs for the Trojans earlier in the game.

Fruitport’s Christian Kennedy, who got the win on the mound in both games. 

Christian Kennedy picked up the win on the mound, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out one in two innings of work.

The Trojans had to work hard to gain their comeback victory in Game 2, after trailing 7-1 on the fourth inning.

They scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-7 lead. Jax Flynn led the rally with a two-run single while being down 0-2 in the count.

In the bottom of the sixth, the game was tied 9-9 before Fruitport exploded for five more runs to take control of the game.

Jaxon Stone sparked the big inning with a two-run double.

French had three hits for Fruitport while Flynn had two hits and three RBIs. Kennedy again pitched the win, giving up four hits and one run over three innings while striking out one and walking one.

Fruitport is now 5-6 overall on the season and 4-5 in conference play.eddie
