The Fruitport volleyball team fought extremely hard to stay alive in the third and final set, but ended up falling to Coopersville 3-0 on Tuesday in O-K Blue conference action.

The Trojans lost the first two sets 25-18 and 25-13.

The third set was a marathon. In a normal set the first team to reach 25 points, with at least a two-point advantage, wins.

Fruitport kept fighting far beyond that in the third set, however, finally falling by a highly unusual score of 31-29.

Fruitport’s Emma Fecher

Sadie Haase led the Trojan offense with 16 kills. Gracelynn Olson had 35 assists while Emma Fecher served up three aces.

Fecher also led the defensive effort with 14 digs.

The Trojans fell to 10-19 on the season.

Fruitport will return to action at home on Thursday, hosting Whitehall, Western Michigan Christian and Cadillac for a series of matches.

The Trojans will also compete in Saturday’s annual Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Tournament, hosted by Mona Shores.eddie
