The Fruitport girls cross country team came away with a first-place finish on Saturday – but just barely.

‘Fruitport had 48 points and NorthPointe finished with 49, followed by Hopkins (70), Calvin Christian (74) and Belding (92).
Zoe German and Peyhton Beardsley finished in the top 10 for the Trojans, with German taking second place at 19:34 and Beardsley taking fourth at 20:44.
Claire Kohley came in 12th place with a time of 22:13, followed by Hailey Heistand (15th, 22:24), Aynsley Merkins (17th, 22:31), Genevieve Franklin (24th, 24:20), Chloe Kohley (26th, 24:37), Brynley Merkins (32nd, 25:07) and Breanna Cole (37th, 26:17).
“It was a rainy day in Hopkins, but we had some great performances,” said Fruitport head coach Randy Johnson. “The girls team was able to win the meet by one point. In the previous conference meet the girls came in third, so we had some great improvements.”
