The Fruitport boys soccer team had a bit of a scare on Thursday might, but managed to battle from behind to beat Kelloggsville 2-1 in an intense O-K Silver conference battle.

Kelloggsville scored first on a penalty kick early in the game, then the Trojans rallied with goals from Adriel Fernandez and Jayden Barnett to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

There was no scoring in the second half as the Trojans hung on for the win.

Hudson Hasekamp and Tate Marshall had assists for Fruitport. Gavin Wilson was credited for strong midfield play.

“This was a wild game on a lot of fronts,” said Fruitport head coach Dan Hazekamp. “Our guys had some adversity to fight through and they did a good job of staying composed and playing for each other.

“This keeps us in a good position in the conference as we make the turn to the back half of conference play. Ten of our last 12 games have been on the road, and I’m proud of the boys for staying together and continuing to compete for one another.”

Fruitport will visit Spring Lake in a big rivalry game on Saturday morning.
