The Fruitport softball team hit a rough patch this week, dropping three games, including two conference matchups.

On Tuesday the Trojans closed out their O-K Silver conference schedule with a pair of losses to Belding, 4-0 in Game 1 and 3-2 in Game 2.

Fruitport finished in third place in the O-K Silver standings with an 8-4 record. Their overall record is now 14-16.

Khloe Courtade pitched a solid Game 1 for the Trojans, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four.

The Fruitport offense was unable to get much going all game, however, totaling just three singles while striking out 12 times.

Kendall Lee

Kendall Lee, Kalli Tawney and Kendall Prout had the singles for the Trojans.

In Game 2, Courtade led the offensive effort, finishing with two hits.

Maddie Anderson was strong in the pitching circle, allowing zero earned runs on four hits while striking out six.

Lee and Tawney each had RBIs for Fruitport.

“It was a full team effort in both games,” said Fruitport head coach Katelyn Reynolds. “The girls had aggression and a selfless approach at the plate to do everything they could do to score. As a coach, that’s all you can ask for.”

Khloe Courtade

The Trojans went on to fall 6-2 to a very good Reeths-Puffer squad on Wednesday.

They scored one run in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not mount a comeback.

Fruitport collected 11 hits, led by Lee, Courtade and Bri Chiaverini with two apiece.

Despite the loss, Coach Reynolds noted progress, pointing out that the first three times the Trojans played R-P this season they lost by 14, 16 and 11 runs.

“It was not a win on the schedule, but R-P is a great team with great pitching and is very well coached,” she said. “It’s great to play competitive teams who challenge us and make us better.”storagemini
