The Fruitport baseball team put the final touches on its O-K Silver conference season on Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Belding.

Now the Trojans will have to wait a few days to see if they will win a share of the conference title.

They are two games behind first-place Hopkins in the loss column and one behind Comstock Park, and those two teams still have to meet in a doubleheader. Comstock Park also has two games left with Calvin Christian, so there are several possible scenarios, all out of the Trojans’ control.

Fruitport finished the conference season with an 11-3 record.

Satchel Norwood

The Trojans won the opener against Belding 10-0. They opened the scoring in the second inning with three runs. Kolton Kennedy started it off with a sacrifice fly, Liam Campbell followed with an RBI double, and Satchel Norwood added an RBI single.

Fruitport added two more runs in the third inning on a Hudson Hazekamp RBI double and a Dexter Lillmars sacrifice fly. The Trojans extended the lead in the fourth inning with a Hazekamp RBI single and a run on a passed ball.

Fruitport added one more run in the fifth to take an 8-0 lead into the seventh inning. Belding mounted a late rally in the final inning, but Fruitport closed the game with a strikeout to secure the victory.

Trevor Rusnak earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings while striking out 11 and allowing just two hits. Leading hitters in Game 1 were Satchel Norwood with three hits and Rusnak, Hazekamp, and Wyatt Fielstra with two apiece.

Liam Campbell

The Trojans won the second game 10–0. They broke the it open in the third inning with four runs. Norwood delivered an RBI single before Hazekamp launched a home run.

Fruitport added another run in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Liam Campbell before erupting for five runs in the fifth. Campbell delivered a two-run single and Avery Lambers added a three-run homer to make the score 10-0.

Hudson Hazekamp earned the win, throwing five innings with nine strikeouts while allowing just two hits. Leading hitters in Game 2 were Lambers with three hits and Norwood, Rusnak, Olson, and Campbell with two apiece.

“We had some of the best at-bats we’ve had this year,” said Fruitport head coach Nick Reed. “The guys were locked in and battling and making productive outs. They really swung the bats with confidence.”storagemini
