The Fruitport girls soccer team pulled out a tight 1-0 victory over Hopkins on Thursday in an O-K Silver conference tournament semifinal game.

The victory put the Trojans in Tuesday’s tournament championship game at NorthPointe Christian. A victory would give Fruitport a share of the overall conference title with NorthPointe, which finished in first place in the standings in the regular schedule, one game head of the Trojans.

The winning goal against Hopkins came on a long free kick from Izzy Hanson-Wilbur that was headed into the net by freshman Regan Wilson.

The Trojans had 15 shots on goal in the game, but could only get one past the Hopkins goalkeeper.

Hanson-Wilbur, Shea Harrison, Kaylynn Pavlich, Maycee Hall and McKenna Joslyn played a great game defensively for Fruitport while goalie Ava Powell recorded her 13th shutout of the season.

“At times we struggled tonight connecting and putting everything together,” said Fruitport head coach Kyle Hall. “At this point of the season results matter. Seasons start being put on the line.

“It was extremely encouraging to see the team play with grit and find a way to get the result tonight against a very capable and senior-heavy Hopkins.”

The Trojans are now 13-4 overall and 8-1 in conference play.ministorage
