Fruitport’s Luke Westerlund came away from Friday’s O-K Silver Conference Championship Meet as a double champion.

Westerlund, a senior, won the championship in both the shot put and discus competition.

He won the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, topping Calvin Christian’s Brady Trabalka, who had a mark of 45 feet.

Westerlund won the discus with a throw of 138 feet, beating out Hopkins’ Noah Opolski, who had a toss of 136 feet, 4 inches.

Westerlund was one two Fruitport athletes to win individual titles at the conference meet.

Christian Pavlige won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.87. He beat out second-place Kash Moored of Hopkins, who came in at 2:02.77

Overall the Trojans finished a strong third place in the team standings with 104 points.

Hopkins won the title with 191 points, followed by Belding (108.5), Fruitport, Kelloggsville (71), NorthPointe Christian (56), Calvin Christian (52.5), Godwin Heights (52) and Comstock Park (17).

Fruitport’s SeanPaul O’Brien finished in second place in the long jump.

Nathaniel Cribley-Cotto took third place in the 200-meter dash while Ryder Merkins was third in the 800-meter run.

Several Fruitport relay teams also did well.

The 4×400 relay team of Cribley-Cotto, O’Brien, Pavilige and Merkins took second place while the 4×800 team of Landon Johnson, Pavlige, Dylan Winskas and Merkins took third place.

Westerlund, Pavilige, O’Brien and Merkins all won All-Conference honors.
