The Fruitport girls tennis team went 1-1 on Thursday, defeating Western Michigan Christian 6-2 but falling to Reeths-Puffer 5-3 in a pair of non-conference matchups.
Against WMC, the Trojans singles players gave the team a huge boost.
No.1 singles Josalynn Nowicki, No.2 Emma Fecher, No.3 Abby Poort and No. 4 Brystol Tenhove were all victorious.

Two Fruitport doubles teams won their matches and put the seal on the victory – Cara Hooker and Lena Saffell (No. 1) and Journey Rufener and Candela Pena (No. 2).
The wins were a little more scarce against Reeths-Puffer.
Nowicki and Fecher won their singles matches while Hooker and Saffell won in doubles.

Overall Fruitport head coach Brad Busscher was happy with the way the Trojans played.
“Overall it was good day for Fruitport tennis,” he said. “Most flights played solid matches and played hard. Hopefully it’s something that helps us perform better on tournament days ahead.
“We are seeing growth from the team as we round into a formidable unit.”
