The Fruitport girls soccer team extended its winning streak – and its shutout streak – to five straight games on Wednesday with a resounding 6-0 victory over Comstock Park in O-K Silver conference action.

The Trojans are now 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference standings. They are tied for first place in the O-K Silver with NorthPointe Christian.

Fruitport led 4-0 at halftime following two goals by Peyhton Beardsley and one apiece by Myla Parker and McKenna Joslyn.

Joslyn and Olivia Cribley-Cotto added second-half goals for the Trojans. Parker had two assists in the game.

Fruitport outshot Comstock Park 26-1. Trojan goalkeeper Ava Powell recorded her fifth shutout in a row.

Head Coach Kyle Hall is happy with his team’s recent performance, but expects the Trojans to keep improving.

“Over the last five games we have a goal differential of plus-16 and have not conceded a goal,” he said. “In terms of match results, we have obviously had some success lately, but we know that means nothing going forward. There is always work to be done and we are continuing to grow as a team and a program.”

The Trojans had some extra motivation on Wednesday, dedicating the game to Cailen Vela, a Fruitport first-grader who has been battling cancer.

“Tonight was a night that reminded many that the game of soccer goes far beyond the lines,” Coach Hall said. “Cailen’s story of grit, grace and dignity epitomizes what it means to be a Trojan.”

The Trojans will hit the road on Friday to play Montague in a non-conference game.
