COMSTOCK PARK – The Fruitport girls basketball team didn’t waste its opportunity to get to .500 on the season on Friday with a 53-18 victory at Comstock Park in an O-K Silver conference clash.
The story of the night was the Fruitport defense, which held Comstock Park to just one second quarter point and two points in the third quarter.
“I was really happy,” said Fruitport head coach Brian Packard about his team allowing just one field goal over a stretch of 15:27. “We rolled out a lot of different girls and they all came in and played tough. It was really good overall and really good to get all the girls involved.”

In total, the Trojans forced 28 turnovers out of Comstock Park while the Panthers made just 7 of 43 shots from the field. Fruitport had 13 steals in the game, and made great progress in the turnover department itself, reducing its total to only 11.
Meanwhile on offense, the Trojans had eight different players score on Friday.
“It’s so fun,” said junior Izzy Hanson-Wilbur, who led all scorers with 20 points. “We’re very inclusive as a group. So, getting everyone to score felt really good. It just feels great to show what we work on in practice every day.”

Packard was happy that everyone saw court time on Friday and played well.
“We work really hard in practice,” the coach said. “We do that to keep everyone developing because you never know what is going to happen in a game. You don’t know who’s going to have to step up, so we want to make sure we’re all ready to play.”
The Trojans jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and had a 15-7 advantage at the end of quarter one.

Cierra Fri led the Trojans with seven points in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Fruitport outscored Comstock Park 14-1 behind six points from Hanson-Wilbur.
The Trojans once again were strong in the third quarter, outscoring Comstock Park 15-2 behind eight points from Hanson-Wibur. Fruitport led 44-10 heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, Fruitport outscored Comstock Park 9-8 to cruise to the large victory.
Fri finished with 11 points and Alexa Sweet added five points.
The Trojans are now 4-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. They will host Hopkins on Tuesday night in a conference matchup.
