The Fruitport girls basketball team got a nice holiday treat on Monday, playing a game against Fremont at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.
While the girls enjoyed the event, the outcome was not in their favor. The Trojans fell behind early and lost to the Packers 60-38 in a non-conference matchup.
The Trojans trailed 12-6 after one quarter, 31-17 at halftime and 47-25 after three quarters.

Junior standout Izzy Hanson-Wilbur returned from an injury and scored six points for the Trojans. Teammates Regan Wilson and Lily Johnson also had six points while Ciera Fri scored five points.
Hanson-Wilbur, Ava Powell and Zephie Packard each snagged six rebounds.
“It was a really fun event,” said Fruitport head coach Brian Packard. “The girls had fun. The venue was really cool. It’s not every day you get to play in an arena.
“We had a couple girls that were on the mend the last couple weeks that were able to contribute more in the game. We also had some underclassmen get some really valuable experience.
“We knew Fremont is a pressing team and if we could beat their press we would have a shot. We actually did a pretty good job of that. We still had a ton of unforced turnovers, but the needle moved in the correct direction.”
The Trojans, now 1-3 on the season, will be off until Dec. 30 when they visit Whitehall.
