Allendale usually has a pretty good wrestling team, with a lot of district championships in recent years, so beating the Falcons is always a nice accomplishment.
The Fruitport wrestling team didn’t only beat Allendale on Friday, however. The Trojans were completely dominant, winning win 10 of 14 weight classes, with eight pins, en route to a very convincing 58-18 victory in non-conference action.
Winning by pin were Austin Jacobs (106 pounds), Rylan Thorsen (113), Ryder Chan (120), Zach Aardema (138), Alex Aardema (150), Cooper Lengkeek (157), Chase Rosema (215) and Luke Westerlund (285).

Four of those pins were in less than a minute. The quickest were Rosema, who pinned his opponent in 29 seconds, and Westerlund, who got it done in 31 seconds.
Winning by points were Murphy Lengkeek (144) and Kalan Teeter (175). Lengkeek’s victory was by 15 points, which made it a technical fall.
“It was an outstanding night of wrestling heading into the break,” said Fruitport head coach Chad Johnson. “The boys came in fired up, competed with confidence, and fed off an electric crowd against a well-coached Allendale team.
“I loved the way we attacked and finished on our feet all night. We’re going to keep pushing and working hard throughout the break as we get ready for our annual Legends Tournament.”
