Everyone on the Fruitport boys cross country team posted their best time of the season at Saturday’s Sparta Invitational.

But the young Trojans showed that the improvement needs to continue, finishing fifth out of five teams in the Gold Division.

Forest Hills Eastern won the team competition, followed by Grand Rapids South Christian, Sparta, Coopersville and the Trojans.

Sophomore Christian Pavlige, a first-year runner, continued to impress, finishing eighth in the individual standings with a time of 16:44.

“He ran under 17 (minutes) for thew first time and looked strong throughout the race,” said Fruitport Coach Randy Johnson about Pavlige.

Fruitport’s Dylan Winskas finished 28th with a time of 18:55, which was his best finish of the season.

“He was able to run injury-free for the first time this season and looked really strong,” Johnson said.

Landon Johnson finished 29th with a time of 18:58, Eddie Bouchard was 33rd with a time of 20:35 and Josh VanStelle was 35th at 20:53.mini
