Fruitport golfer Maddie Anderson (pictured at the top) had a good first outing of the season on Friday, finishing 12th out of 41 competitors at the Fruitport Invitational at Oak Ridge Golf Course.
Anderson, a sophomore coming off a strong freshman season, shot a score of 104 and missed out on finishing in the top 10 by only three strokes.

The Fruitport girls had a so-so-day as a team, finishing in sixth place out of nine teams with 516 points. The Trojans finished ahead of Western Michigan Christian, Oakridge and Holton.
Coopersville took first place with a 369 score, followed by Whitehall (383). Coopersville’s Madelyn Veeneman was the individual medalist with a round of 87.

Fruitport’s Kendall Lee finished 21st with a 117 score. Jayla Pryskel was 33rd with a 146, Ava Powell was 34th with a 149 and Tatum Anderson was 36th with a 150.
“As the day went on, the girls’ confidence improved along with their scores,” said Fruitport Coach Brenda Hansen. “Today was a learning experience for all of the girls, and we are looking forward to the season!”
