If there were any questions earlier in the season about the Fruitport baseball team, they had to do with the Trojans’ schedule.

Fruitport is competing for the first time this year in the O-K Silver conference, which overall does not seem to be a real strong baseball league.

The Trojans played 13 of their first 14 games against O-K Silver opponents and only lost once, but some still wondered how they would fare against non-conference competition.

Well they’ve done a pretty good job of answering that question in the last few weeks.

The Trojans pounded Fremont 15-3 in a non-conference game on Friday. Last weekend they beat Western Michigan Christian, Mona Shores and North Muskegon to win the GMAA tournament championship, and before that beat Traverse City Central.

Fruitport’s Jax Flynn, who led the Trojans with three hits.

Fruitport is now 19-1 overall, and 5-0 against teams outside of the O-K Silver.

“I feel we’ve played some good out-of-conference opponents and have done well,” said Fruitport head coach Nick Reed. “We are just looking to get better each time, and the boys are. We have some tests coming next week with Spring Lake and Hamilton, and we’re looking forward to it.”

Fruitport jumped out to an early lead over Fremont, scoring eight runs in the first inning. The Trojans added four more runs in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth to seal the win.

Trevor Rusnak pitched five strong innings, striking out 11 while walking two and allowing just two hits and two earned runs.

Jax Flynn had three hits for Fruitport while Satchel Norwood and Avery Lambers each had two. Braxton Ward knocked in four runs while Ryan Bosch drove in three, including two with a home run.eddieminith brands
