The Fruitport girls tennis team has been piling up some victories this season, and that trend continued on Wednesday when the Trojans overwhelmed Fremont 8-0 in a non-conference matchup.
The Trojans won seven of eight matches in straight sets, and only went to a third set in one. Overall they won 105 individual games, compared to Fremont’s 32.
Winning in straight sets in singles were Josalynn Nowicki (No. 1), Emma Fecher (No. 2), Tara Sweet (No. 3) and Gracie Ferrell (No. 4).
Nowicki and Sweet both won 12 of their 13 games.

Straight-set winners in doubles were Abby Poort and Bailey Poort (No. 2), Cara Hooker and Brystol TenHove (No. 3) and Mylee Mineni and Jordan Smith (No. 4).
Fruitport’s No. 1 doubles team of Rylee Rufener and Lena Saffell had to work a little harder after losing their first set 5-7. They came back and took the match by winning the second set 6-1 and the tiebreaker 10-8.
Fruitport is now 4-2 in dual match play.
“Besides one doubles, which had an injury affecting their play, the girls played solid matches,” said Fruitport Coach Brad Busscher. “All of the flights seem to continue to work hard to improve their individual play to contribute to the team success.
“We recognize the importance of upcoming matches. Some of these matches will determine the success of our season. As a team we hope to get stronger and more confident, to rise up to these upcoming moments. Hopefully, this was a step in the right direction.”
