The Fruitport girls basketball team is still searching for its first win of the season after dropping its conference opener on Friday night.
The Trojans got off to a slow start on the road against Comstock Park and fell 45-31.
Friday’s game was the first for both teams in the realigned O-K Silver conference.
“We started off the game giving up 15 and then we were in battle mode the rest of the way,” Fruitport coach Brian Packard said. “We have got to find a way to start a game a lot faster offensively.”
Fruitport managed just five points in the first quarter and three in the second, leading to a 23-8 deficit at halftime. The Panthers extended the lead to 36-14 after three quarters. Fruitport outscored Comstock Park 17-9 in the fourth quarter.

Fruitport is now 0-7 on the season. Despite the tough results, Packard said the team is getting closer to where it needs to be to compete.
“We did some really good things,” he said. “We did some bad things, too, though. We have to start having more good than bad and I think we are getting closer. It doesn’t feel like it to the girls, but us coaches see glimpses.”
Sophomore Izzy Hanson-Wilbur, who had to leave the Trojans’ last game with an injury, returned to lead the team with 18 points and four steals. Lainey Bol added eight points for the Trojans.
Fruitport will head to Hopkins on Tuesday for another OK Silver matchup. The Vikings are 2-5 after topping Wyoming Godwin Heights in their conference opener on Friday.
