Fruitport wrestler Carsen Crow couldn’t compete last year because he was transfer student from Spring Lake and had to sit out a season.

But Crow was still in the wrestling room every day, working and practicing out with the team and sharpening his skills.

This year all that work is paying off. Crow has a 9-3 record after 12 matches, including two more victories on Wednesday.

Crow’s efforts helped Fruitport pick up two easy team wins, 61-15 over Comstock Park in an O-K Silver conference match, and 70-12 over Grand Rapids Christian.

The Trojans improved to 4-0 overall on the season and 2-0 in the conference standings.

Carsen Crow, who had two pins on Wednesday.

Crow, wrestling at 175 pounds, was the only Trojan to pin his opponent in both matches.

He stopped Comstock Park’s Jenze Geldhof in 4:26 and GR Christian’s Shane Rumbharose in 4:48.

“Carsen is a big part of our team,” said Fruitport Coach Chad Johnson. ”Great work ethic and a great all around person. He wasn’t able to compete last season, but was in the room practicing with the team every day, getting better and learning our system. I truly believe that he is seeing a lot of success because of that.”

The Trojans were dominant against Comstock Park, winning 11 of 14 matches, including eight with pins.

Pinning their opponents were Crow, Ryder Chan (113 pounds), Phillip Stone-Tyler (120), Cooper Lengkeek (157), Kalan Teeter (165), Chad Rosema (190), Ethan Riggs (215) and Jayden Perry (285).

Alex Aardema, who won two matches on Wednesday.

Other winners for Fruitport were Kayden Barnes (106), Alex Aardema (138) and Davis Johnson (144).

The victory over GR Christian was much easier, with Fruitport winning nine matches by forfeit.

Crow and Blair Zimmer (150) won their matches with pins. Aardema also claimed his second victory of the night.

“Another good night of wrestling,” Coach Johnson said. “We will take a long break to work on some things and continue to build.”
