The Fruitport competitive cheerleading squad kicked off the new season in a big way on Wednesday, taking first place at the Durso Memorial Invitational at Lee High School.
The Trojans won the event by a big margin, totaling 681.5 points, far ahead of second-place Coopersville (547.3) and third-place Allendale (526.5).
Fruitport scored the highest in round three (stunts) with a 281.6. The Trojans scored 209.7 in Round 1 (execution) and 190.2 in Round 2 (overall skills).
Coach Saqora Conklin gave special shoutouts to team members Chloe Anderson, Gracie Ferrel and Emilie Wahr for their contributions, and said the entire squad is already working hard to achieve great things this season.
