The Fruitport softball team keeps popping up with big wins.
In recent weeks the Trojans, who started the season with a lot of losses, have turned in impressive victories over Holton, North Muskegon and Spring Lake.
They kept the ball rolling on Saturday with a huge 7-6 upset of powerful Reeths-Puffer in the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Tournament. Even more impressively, the win came after the Trojans has lost 19-3 to Oakridge in the first game of the day.
Fruitport gained the edge on R-P with five runs in the third inning. Teagan Schultz doubled in one run, two more came in on an error, and another run scored on a Mylee Mineni groundout.

Brooklyn Russell pitched the win for the Trojans, going all seven innings while allowing eight hits and striking out two batters.
Ash Olson led the Fruitport offense with two hits.
The first game took a bad turn for Fruitport when Oakridge scored 10 runs in the sixth inning. Olson and Mineni each had two hits for the Trojans.
“I was very proud of my girls today, beating Puffer and knowing that they can beat a great team,” said Fruitport Coach Bob Dorman. “I challenged them to let this victory catapult us for the rest of the season and never be satisfied, and I encouraged them to keep making strides to get better every day.
“It was very satisfying to see the joy in their faces after the game.”
