The Fruitport girls soccer team opened its season in style on Friday night with an 8-1 non-conference victory over Oakridge.
Oakridge took an early lead when Serenity Carlisle scored the first goal about a minute into the game, but the Trojans bounced back to take a 4-1 halftime lead, then cruised to the victory in the second half.
Mallory Smith and Kayla Kolberg powered the Fruitport offense with two goals apiece. Mikayla Belasco, Reese Jacobs and Jorja Blackmere each added single goals. The other Trojan goal was accidently knocked in by an Oakridge player.
Collecting assists for Fruitport were Jacobs, Blackmere, McKenzie Beardsley and Alexa Hanson.
Fruitport goalie Riley Kettel had a relatively quiet night, making two saves.
