The Fruitport competitive cheer squad battled through some issues on Wednesday and finished in third place at an O-K Conference jamboree.
The Trojans had an overall score of 692.24, behind first-place Spring Lake, and second-place Grand Rapids West Catholic and Coopersville.
Fruitport posted a 218.7 score in the first round (execution), a season-high 193.54 in the second round (overall skills) and a 280 in the third round (stunting).
“This team pushed through injuries and adjusting rounds twice before competing, but continued to work hard to earn some great scores,” said Fruitport coach Saqora Conklin.
“Credit goes to Isabella Castillo for learning a new position in round 1 and a new round 3, and for performing in the air for the first time this season!” Conklin said. “Her dedication is incredible when learning new things!
“Also credit to Allie Sullivan for her hard work she’s been putting in all season and proving it on the mat in round 1!”
The Trojans will compete again on Saturday, Jan. 4 in their only home meet of the season.
