Fruitport bowlers Jray Conklin and Brynna Hanson both had great days on Saturday, winning individual championships at the 15-school Fruitport Invitational at Northway Lanes in Muskegon.

Conkin bowled games of 213-246-244 for a final score of 703 in the open competition. He finished ahead of Zeeland’s Alex Vogt, who took second place with a 673 series.

Hanson bowled games of 224-254-124 for a final score of 602 in the open competition. She finished ahead of Zeeland’s Rylee Smith, who took second place with a 574 series.

In team competition, the Fruitport boys (pictured above with their trophy) qualified for the final four by finishing in third place in the open competition. The Trojans had a cumulative score of 3,189, trailing first-place Rockford (3,425) and second-place Zeeland (3,264).

The Trojans went on to beat Zeeland 411-379 in the team semifinals before falling to Rockford 367-339 in the finals.

The Fruitport girls team also made the team final four by finishing fourth in the open competition. The Trojans bowled a cumulative 2,577, behind first-place Zeeland (3,230), Grand Haven (2,783) and East Kentwood (2,778).

The Trojans went on to lose to Zeeland 304-181 in the team semifinal round.

“I’m proud of Brynna Hanson for winning the girls side of the event,” said Fruitport bowling coach Mike Weaver. “On the boys side I’m extremely proud of Jray Conklin. He carried the team on his shoulder through the qualifying rounds with a personal best 703 series and was rock solid in the baker games.”
