RAVENNA – The Hart football team entered Ravenna on Friday hungry to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Ravenna already had a playoff spot secured and could have let off the gas and coasted.

But the Bulldogs were not charitable hosts, particularly after losing their last two games by an average of 31.5 points.

Ravenna played hard, dominated and walked away with a convincing 48-0 victory and second place in the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division.

Now that they’re back on track, the Bulldogs are focusing squarely on the playoffs.

“I’m proud of the team, the game last week was tough,” said Ravenna head coach Justin Ego. “I haven’t seen them come out with that kind of energy all year. If we play loose and fast, we can be a really good football team.”

Ravenna’s success is in large part due to the explosive playmaking of senior quarterback Hunter Hogan, who has been dynamite for the Bulldogs all year, and continued his pace against the Pirates on Friday.

He completed six passes, including four touchdowns, and had 106 yards through the air. He rushed for 111 yards on 13 carries. He was even unstoppable on defense, hauling in three interceptions to help secure the shutout.

“We all talk about his offense, but on defense he’s one of the best players I’ve ever been around,” Ego said. “He’s a guy that you can count on, and when it gets rough he’s going to be there and he’s going to fight with you.”

The Bulldogs set the tempo of the game immediately, with Hogan rushing in a touchdown to make it 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Ravenna turned on the jets in the second quarter, when Hogan threw touchdown passes on consecutive drives to Drew Mabrito and Chase Thomas, then picked off a pass to set up a Mabrito rushing touchdown.

Mabrito scored a rushing touchdown and caught a TD pass in the third quarter, and Thomas had a TD reception in the fourth to cap the scoring.

Mabrito had a very solid game with 153 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns, including a 58-yard TD reception in the second quarter. Thomas had two touchdowns on just two receptions while also leading the team in tackles with five, and Caleb Forsythe hauled in two interceptions for Ravenna to bring the team total to five.

The Bulldogs finished the regular season 6-3 overall and 6-1 in the conference, and now look to Sunday to find out the identify of their first playoff opponent.

Hart fell to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
