EGELSTON TOWNSHIP – The Whitehall football team proved yet again on Friday night that they are like a heavyweight prize fighter who has yet to meet his match.
The undefeated Vikings kept rolling on the road with a 42-8 victory over previously undefeated Oakridge in a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division showdown.
“They got a lot of depth,” said Oakridge head coach Cary Harger about the impressive Whitehall squad. “They just keep coming. They’re fast and they keep their feet moving. They played with a lot of confidence tonight.”
Part of the Vikings’ motivation on Friday was the fact that they lost 32-19 to Oakridge last year, which helped create a three-way tie for the conference title between Montague, Oakridge and Whitehall.

Whitehall would have preferred to have the title to itself. Just ask quarterback Kyle Stratton, who rushed for 187 yards and one touchdown and completed 12 of 15 passes for 93 yards and three more scores.
“Since Week 2 last year,” Stratton said about how long his team has been waiting to get back at the Eagles. “We’ve been ready for a long time. It means everything. You never want to lose to the blue schools.”
The game started out fairly even on Friday with each team going scoreless in the first quarter.
Viking running back Jackson Cook broke the stalemate just five seconds into the second quarter with a four-yard touchdown run, and the PAT gave Whitehall a 7-0 lead.
Cook later plunged in from two yards out to put Whitehall ahead 14-0 with 6:40 remaining in the first half.

Stratton wrapped up the scoring in the first half with a dazzling 23-yard run with 1:46 left in the second quarter, and Whitehall led 21-0 at halftime.
Stratton scored again on a two-yard run on the first drive of the third quarter, then connected with Nate Bolley for a 44-yard touchdown pass a few minutes later to put Whitehall ahead 35-0.
The final score of the third quarter came with 36 seconds remaining when Stratton capped his night with a 23-yard touchdown run.
Oakridge quarterback Matt Danicek scored the lone touchdown of the fourth quarter with a six-yard run with 3:55 remaining.
“We never felt comfortable,” Whitehall head coach Tony Sigmon said about the victory. “That game was never really over with. We know how explosive they can be, but our coaching staff does a fantastic job.”

Cook totaled 71 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries while Bolley added 81 yards and one touchdown on four receptions.
Jaiden Altgilbers led the Viking defense with six total tackles while Trannon Aylor and Graycen Shepherd each totaled five.
Danicek finished with 91 yards on 12-for-17 passing for Oakridge while Trever Jones totaled 23 yards on 13 carries and 54 yards on five receptions.
Bryson Stephenson led the Eagles with 6.5 tackles.
Whitehall, 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, will host Ludington next week.
“We’ll just continue what we’re doing,” Cook said. “We’ll take it one week at a time, one game at a time and one practice at a time. We’ll focus on that week’s opponent.”
Oakridge, 5-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play, will visit Orchard View next week.
