The Spring Lake football team had a rough night on Friday, falling 53-17 to Allendale in an O-K Blue Conference game. The Lakers had a pair of early leads, but couldn’t keep up with the Faclons.
Spring Lake took an early 3-0 lead when kicker Carter Ball was successful on a 36-yard field goal attempt. Allendale responded by taking a 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lakers took a 10-6 lead at the 10:52 mark in the second quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Reid Grimmer. Allendale ended the quarter on a 14-0 run to make the halftime score 20-10.
The Falcons added another 12 points before Spring Lake scored on a Gerrit Lyyski touchdown to make it 32-17 with 1:46 left in the third.
Allendale outscored Spring Lake 21-0 in the fourth quarter to make the final score 53-17.
Spring Lake is now 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. They’ll next travel to Holland Christian for a conference clash next Friday.
