North Muskegon’s girls soccer team took another step in defending their state title Tuesday night. The Norse picked up a 2-0 win over Grand Rapids Covenant Christian in a Division 4 regional semifinal game in Cadillac.
Samantha Johnson started the scoring at the 17:24 mark. Johnson finished off an assist from Jaley Schultz.
The Norse added a second goal with two minutes left in the game. Izzy Dejonge scored on a shot that hit off the keeper’s hands and found the net. Johnson assisted on the goal.

Emma Lamiman made a crucial save on a penalty kick for the Norse in the first half.
North Muskegon advances to face Harbor Springs in a regional final, and state quarterfinal, game Thursday at 6 p.m. The teams played earlier this season, with Harbor Springs winning 2-1.
North Muskegon is 16-3-1 overall this season. Harbor Springs is 14-7-1.
