SPRING LAKE – It’s been quite the week for Spring Lake senior soccer standout Meah Bajt – and the best could be yet to come.
On Tuesday, Bajt had an amazing six-goal performance in a district semifinal victory over Reeths-Puffer and set a new single-season school scoring record of 38 goals in the process.
Bajt nearly matched that performance on Thursday in the Division 2 district championship game against Whitehall, scoring five more goals to propel Spring Lake over the Vikings by a 7-1 margin.

The Lakers, who have now won six straight district titles, improved to 16-2-1 on the season. They now move on to regionals next week to face the winner of Saturday’s Cadillac-Petoskey district title game.
Bajt has now scored 43 goals in 19 games this season, for an average of more than two goals per contest.
Spring Lake coach Becky May will surely miss her at the end of the season, but is enjoying the final moments she gets to coach her scoring wizard.
“She deserves every bit of the success because the poor girl lost a whole season due to COVID,” May said. “She won’t walk away with the overall scoring record because of it, and it’s almost unbearable to me because she deserves it.
“I am so happy for her, but the sad part is that I won’t get to watch her play again next year. I am going to miss watching her. She is just unique. You can’t build an individual like her, players like her are born and not built.”

The Lakers hope to have a few more games with Bajt in the lineup. Spring Lake is trying to make a tournament run like last season, which ended in a loss in the state Division 2 finals to Bloomfield Hills Marian.
The team is motivated to keep the season moving toward the ultimate prize, a state championship.
“They don’t look past any games, but they look through them,” May said about her players. “Most teams are okay with winning districts, but we have created this monster of not being happy with just winning districts.
“I think we are ready for regionals. If Meah is on, look out, and if our defense can hold I think we have a great chance.”

Bajt collected a natural hat trick in the first half, scoring the first three goals of the game with 34, 23 and 14 minutes left on the clock, respectively.
Clara Howe assisted on the second goal of the game, while the first and third tallies were unassisted.
Spring Lake increased its advantage to 4-0 with just over 14 minutes left in the first half on a goal by Emily Anderson that was assisted by Clara Saunders.
Bajt added her fourth goal just two minutes into the second half, with an assist from Ella Andree, to give the Lakers a 5-0 lead.

Saunders added a goal four minutes later on a penalty kick.
Bajt scored her fifth and final goal of the night with just over 20 minutes left to play, with an assist from Eryn Bouwhuis.
The Vikings finally got on the scoreboard with 14 minutes left on a goal by Maggie Evans.
“It has been really fun, and it’s good to end districts on our home field,” Bajt said. “We have been playing really well, and our chemistry has been there all season long. This was a great way to end my senior year on our home field.”
