Ravenna continued its perfect start to the season with a pair of conference wins over Whitehall on Tuesday. The Bulldogs won by scores of 8-1 and 12-3.
Emma Gillard pitched the opener, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts. She also had a pair of hits of her own, including a triple.
Emma Herremans led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a homer and a double. Maddie Kilbourne had two hits while Kara Postema and Addison Gillard added one each.
Addison Gillard took the win in Game 2, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out three batters.
Liberty Willick and Herremans each landed three hits, including two doubles, for Ravenna, followed by Addison Gillard, Kendra Denhof, and Emma Gillard each with two hits. Kilbourne, Postema, and Elli Solem each landed a hit of their own.
The Bulldogs improve to 14-0 for the season, with a record of 6-0 in the West Michigan Conference.
Oakridge smacks six homers, sweeps Montague to stay unbeaten
The Eagles bats were hot despite the cold weather, winning by scores of 17-1 and 24-3 in a pair of three-inning games with Montague.
Oakirdge scored 16 runs in the third inning of Game 1, including back-to-back-to-back home runs by Brooklyn Galdeen, Jasmine Pastor and Kaelinn Jozsa.
Galdeen hit two homers in the inning, including a grand slam and was also the winning pitcher for Oakridge. Andrea Romero had two hits in the game.
Kennedy Johnson led Montague with two hits, including a double, while Gabby Moreau added a single and an RBI.
Pastor added a second home run — a grand slam — in Game 2 and totaled five RBI. Freshman Brenna Cabrera hit her first career home run as part of a two-hit, three-RBI effort.
Jozsa was the winning pitcher and helped her own cause with three hits, including two doubles, and four RBI. Gracie Willea and Ahria Doornbos both had a pair of hits and drove in three runs each.
The wins push Oakridge’s record to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the West Michigan Conference.
Hesperia totals 37 runs in the doubleheader against Morley Stanwood
The Panthers defeated the Mohawks 20-14 in the first game. Emma Joppich took the win with 10 strikeouts in six innings.
Adriana Slater totaled three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs, to lead Hesperia to victory. Allie Townsend and Triniti Tanner each landed three hits as well. Townsend had two triples and a double, while Tanner had a two-base hit.
Hesperia won 17-9 in game two, with Kaity Skok earning the win. Emmi Tinkham had three hits, including a grand slam, and totaled six RBIs. Townsend landed two hits and drove in one, while Joppich collected a pair of hits as well.
Grandville downs Hudsonville 5-3
The Eagles led 2-0 in the second inning, but Grandville turned the game around with a run in the second and a three-run third inning.
Syd Bosgraaf pitched the first three innings for Hudsonville, allowing two hits and four runs while striking out five batters. Elly Koopman pitched the final three innings, allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts.
Annika Talsma and Megan Beemer led the Eagles with two hits and one RBI each.
Puffer falls to Zeeland West
Reeths-Puffer dropped a pair of games against OK Green foe Zeeland West on Tuesday.
The Dux defeated the Rockets 7-4 in Game 1. Reeths-Puffer’s Caitlynn Duffey took the loss, but struck out 10 batters.
Madi Kunnen, Megan Barmes, and Mady Snyder each landed two hits, while Alyssa Sahlhoff added a triple.
The Rockets lost 5-3 in game two. Duffey pitched the first four innings, striking out five batters. Snyder closed out the last two innings with three strikeouts.
Duffey landed two hits to lead Reeths-Puffer. Brookelyn Rought had a double and Kaylee Jones hit a triple.
Mona Shores splits with Zeeland East
With the score tied in the top of the seventh inning in Game 1, Abbie Critchett hit in the winning run to give the Sailors a 6-5 victory.
Kristen Hylland earned the win from the mound, allowing eight hits and striking out three batters.
Hannah Geoghan led Mona Shores with three hits and Macey Spaniola had two.
Zeeland East took a 10-5 victory in the second game. Hylland took the loss in game two, striking out five batters.
Geoghan had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Sailors, followed by Critchett, Maggie McCarthy, Elizabeth Savacool and Amilia Pena each with one hit.
