The Muskegon Lumberjacks scored four unanswered goals to erase an early two-goal deficit and defeat the Youngstown Phantoms 4-2 on Saturday from the Covelli Centre in Ohio.

The Lumberjacks are now 24-12-6 on the season, good for 54 points and second place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

Muskegon will return home to play the first place Chicago Steel next Friday and Saturday night at the Mercy Health Arena. Both games are slated for 7:10 p.m.

The Lumberjacks fell behind 2-0 after the first period with Youngstown goals from Shane Lachance (4:36) and Grant Porter (13:11).

Quinn Hutson scored the lone goal of the second period at the 13:01 mark to cut Muskegon’s deficit to 2-1 heading into the final stanza.

Ben Strinden tied the game 2-2 at the :44 mark, then scored the game-winning goal 11:07 into the third period to give the Lumberjacks a 3-2 advantage.

Philip Tresca added an empty net goal with 51 seconds remaining in regulation to complete the comeback victory.

Hutson had two assists to go along with his goal, while Jake Richard added two assists.

The Lumberjacks dominated in shots on goal, outshooting Youngstown by a 45-18 margin.

Muskegon’s goaltender Aleksandr Kuleshov stopped 16-of-18 shots on net.
