The red-hot Muskegon Lumberjacks continued to pile up the goals with a 7-1 road victory over the Madison Capitols on Saturday in Wisconsin.

Phil Tresca led the way for the Jacks with a three-goal hat trick while Quinn Hutson scored twice.

The victory completed yet another two-game weekend sweep for the Jacks, who have now won four straight games and 15 of their last 18. They improved to 17-10-3 and pulled within one point of second-place Dubuque in the USHL Eastern Conference standings.

Muskegon piled up 17 goals over the two games in Madison on Friday and Saturday.

There was no scoring in the first period. Hutson got the Jacks on the board in the second period with his 17th goal of the season, then Tresca followed with his 16th and 17th and the Jacks led 3-1 headed into the third.

Hutson, Tresca, Ethan Whitcomb and Jake Richard scored in the third period, completing the rout.

The Lumberjacks had a good game on special teams, scoring twice on five power-play opportunities while holding Madison scoreless in four tries.

Goalie Alexander Kuleshov got the victory, stopping 24 of 25 shots. Muskegon had a 34-25 advantage in shots on goal.

Muskegon will return home for three games next weekend, Friday against Team USA and Saturday and Sunday against the Green Bay Gamblers.
