The Mason County Central girls basketball team escaped with a 42-41 win over Shelby on Friday in West Michigan Conference play.
The Spartans trailed 9-2 at the end of the first quarter and 21-13 at halftime.
Mason County Central went on a 15-8 third quarter run to cut its deficit to 29-28 going into the fourth before completing the comeback win.
Grace Weinert paced the Spartans with 12 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists. Wren Nelson and Charlie Banks each added nine points and four rebounds.
The Tigers were led by Lauren Brown with 12 points, while Ella Olmstead and Kendall Zoulek each added 11.
Mason County Central is now 3-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE
HART 37, WHITEHALL 25 – The Pirates led 11-4 at the end of the opening quarter, 17-7 at halftime and 26-17 heading into the fourth.
Hart was led by Addi Hovey with 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Morgan Marvin added eight points, eight rebounds and eight blocks.
The Vikings were led by Charley Klint with eight points while McKena Coron pulled down 11 rebounds and had three steals.
Whitehall is now 2-4 overall and 2-2 in West Michigan Conference play.
MONTAGUE 48, NORTH MUSKEGON 19 – The Wildcats scored all 15 first quarter points and led 24-5 at halftime before taking a 38-14 advantage heading into the fourth.
Kendall Osborn paced Montague with 10 points while Maddie Meacham and Anna Trevino added seven.
The Norse was led by Jena Francis and Josee Cooke with five and four points, respectively.
The Wildcats are now 4-1 on the season and 4-0 in league play, while North Muskegon is now 1-4 overall and 0-4 in conference action.
LAKES 8
MUSKEGON CATHOLIC 57, ORCHARD VIEW 26 – The Crusaders led 14-6 after the first quarter, 23-15 at halftime and 34-19 through three quarters.
Erin LaVigne paced MCC with 15 points, while McKenna Gentry and Carrie Ladd added 10 points apiece.
The Cardinals were led by Liz Estelle with 15 points and eight rebounds while Grace Gardner scored seven points.
The Crusaders improved to 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in Lakes 8.
LUDINGTON 72, MANISTEE 21- The Orioles jumped out to a 26-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter, led 44-12 at halftime and had a 61-19 lead heading into the fourth.
Keelyn Laird paced Ludington with 19 points, RyAnn Rohrer with 11 and Rylee Stone with 10.
The Orioles are now 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in Lakes 8 play.

HOLTON 44, WHITE CLOUD 37 – Ryann Robins led the Red Devils with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Courtney Boes added seven points and 10 rebounds.
Holton’s Abbie Fowler chipped in with seven points and seven assists.
The Red Devils trailed 15-9 after the first quarter before going on a 10-2 second quarter run to take a 19-17 lead at halftime.
Holton led 31-27 going into the fourth quarter, then closed out the game on a 13-10 fourth quarter tear.
The Red Devils are now 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
LAKEVIEW 37, HESPERIA 36 – The Panthers trailed 13-2 at the end of the first quarter, 19-8 at halftime and 26-18 heading into the fourth.
Hesperia finished the game strong by going on a 16-9 run during the fourth quarter but fell just short of a comeback.
Lakeview scored the game-winning point on a free throw with two seconds remaining in the contest.
The Panthers were led by Emmet Tinkham with 16 points and nine rebounds while Emma Joppich scored 14 points.
Hesperia is now 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
NON-LEAGUE
BELDING 53, FRUITPORT 17 – The Trojans fall to 0-4 for the season after their loss to Belding on Friday night.
The Black Knights held a 9-2 led over Fruitport in the first quarter and ended the first half with a 25-11 lead.
GRAND HAVEN 51, SPRING LAKE 45 – The contest was deadlocked 13-13 at the end of the opening quarter and 37-37 heading into the fourth.
The Bucs went 10-for-12 from the free throw line during the fourth quarter to help seal the victory.
Caydee Constant paced Grand Haven with 16 points while Alyssa Hatzel added 14 and Zoe Spoelman had 10.
The Lakers were led by Alexa Carter with 14 points and six rebounds, while Jennifer Judge added 10 points and six rebounds and Ella Andree had nine points and six assists.
Spring Lake is now 3-2 overall, while the Bucs improved to 4-1 on the season.
MONA SHORES 56, FOREST HILLS NORTHERN 34 – The Sailors led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter, 34-13 at halftime and 44-27 through three quarters.
Lily Miller paced Mona Shores with 14 points, while Jenna Tierman added 11 and Khaleeya Cook had nine.
The Sailors are now 4-1 overall on the season.
