The Ravenna boys basketball team opened West Michigan Conference play with a 66-42 win over Whitehall Friday night.
Four different players scored in double-figures for the Bulldogs, led by Kyle Beebe with 19 points.
Whitehall started the game well, grabbing a 17-11 lead after one quarter, but it was all Ravenna from there. The Bulldogs used a 17-3 advantage in the second to lead 28-20 by halftime. They extended that lead to 48-29 after three quarters.
Travis May, Clay Schullo and Grant Becklin each scored 12 points to boost the Ravenna offense.
Brodie Fogus led the Vikings with a double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds. Red Watson followed with seven points and Isaac DeHart scored six.
The Bulldogs improve to 2-0 for the season and 1-0 in conference play, while Whitehall falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the West Michigan Conference.
WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENC
HART 52, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 49 — The Pirates held on in the second half to move to 2-0 on the season.
Hart controlled the first half, leading 15-9 after one quarter and 30-16 at halftime. The Spartans fought back with a 14-6 edge in the third quarter to pull within 36-30.
Mason County Central outscored Hart 19-16 in the fourth, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Pirates held on for a three-point win.
Parker Hovey led the Pirates with 19 points, while Kohen Porter chipped in 10. Will Chye led MCC with 17 points and Jayden Perrone totaled 13 points and eight rebounds.
Hart is now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in West Michigan Conference play. Mason County Central is 0-2 on the year and 0-1 in the WMC.
MONTAGUE 46, OAKRIDGE 31 — The Wildcats opened the season with a win over Oakridge Friday night.
Montague led 10-5 after the first quarter before dominating the second quarter 15-2 to lead 25-7 at halftime. The Wildcats led 36-22 heading to the fourth quarter.
Owen Raeth led Montague with 13 points on the night. Isaiah Atchison added 10 for the Wildcats and Colton Blankstrom scored eight.
Montague opens the season 1-0 overall and in the West Michigan Conference, while Oakridges falls to 1-1 and 0-1 in the WMC.
SHELBY 40, NORTH MUSKEGON 34 — A balanced scoring attack led the Tigers to a win in their West Michigan Conference opener. Bishop Lee led the Tigers with 10 points, and Joseph Hayes and Carsen Claeys each scored nine points.
Shelby led 7-5 in the first quarter, but North Muskegon tied the game at 16-16 heading to halftime. The Tigers closed the third quarter with a 28-21 lead.
Troy McManus led the Norse with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Shelby is now 1-1 for the season, with a 1-0 record in conference play. North Muskegon is 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the WMC.
LAKES 8
LUDINGTON 81, WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 42 – Peyton LaCombe led the Orioles with 25 points on the night as Ludington cruised to a Lakes 8 win.
Ludington dominated the opening quarter, jumping out to a 23-2 lead, and never looked back. The Orioles led 48-16 at halftime and 68-28 after three quarters.
David Shillinger added 18 points for Ludington with Nathan Gilchrist scoring eight.
Sam Ligget scored 19 points to lead WMC.
Ludington is now 1-1 on the season with a conference record of 1-0. Western Michigan Christian falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the Lakes 8 conference.
MUSKEGON HEIGHTS 72, ORCHARD VIEW 57 – Darius Williams played an incredible game for the Cardinals in the loss, posting a triple-double. Williams totaled 32 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, while adding six steals as well. Khi Thomas added nine points, six rebounds and four steals for OV while Stephon Oakes had seven points and seven rebounds.
Muskegon Heights starts the season and Lakes 8 conference play at 1-0, while Orchard View begins 0-1.
MANISTEE 29, MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 25 — The Crusaders played great defense, but couldn’t score enough to claim a win Friday.
Chase Willer led MCC with six points. Jaden Johnson was strong on the boards with 12 rebounds, while Dane Rutz had nine rebounds and six steals.
The Crusaders are now 0-2 for the season.
NON-CONFERENCE
FRUITPORT 67, FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 52 — The Trojans grabbed an early lead against the Eagles and never let go Friday night.
Fruitport led 18-11 after the first quarter, 35-23 at halftime and 49-34 after three quarters.
Bode Anspach had a team-high 16 for Fruitport. Andrew Spyke scored 14, Paschal Jolman added 12 and Ryan Laus had 10.
Calvary’s Bradley Richards had a massive game, leading all scorers with 24 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. Jacob May added 13 points and seven assists for the Eagles.
Fruitport is now 1-1 on the season, while Calvary drops to 2-1.

HOLTON 46, MORLEY STANWOOD 28 — The Red Devils opened conference play with a victory of the Mohawks Friday night.
Holton led 9-7 after the first quarter, 23-13 at halftime and 37-21 after three quarters.
Austin Fowler totaled 18 points to lead the Red Devils offensively. Wyatt Monette packed the stat sheet with 17 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Holton is now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in CSAA Silver action.
WHITE CLOUD 65, HESPERIA 26 — The Panthers fell behind early and never recovered in their CSAA Silver opener.
White Cloud led 22-4 after the first quarter, 42-11 at halftime and 57-21 at the end of three.
Maddox Mosley led Hesperia with nine points. The Panthers fall to 1-1 overall this season and begin conference play 0-1.
