The defending state champion Hudsonville girls basketball team fell to Midland Dow 56-51 on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup.
Dow led 20-15 after one quarter, 30-28 at halftime and 43-40 headed into the fourth. Hudsonville tied the score several time in the final quarter, but Dow was 11-for-12 from the free throw line down the stretch to nail down the win.
Maddie Petroelje led Hudsonville with 17 points, five rebounds, two steals and one block. Jaci Tubergen added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists while Eva Joldersma had seven points and 13 rebounds.
Alexa Kolnitys and Abby Rey each had 22 points for Midland Dow.
Hudsonville is now 1-1 on the season.
