Ariel Walker scored 18 points to lead the Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team to a 57-29 non-conference victory over Spring Lake on the Rockets’ home court on Friday.

Sophia Hekkema added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Rockets while Brooklyn Tornes scored 11 points.

Reeths Puffer took a 13-4 lead in the first quarter, led 24-10 at halftime, and closed the third quarter with a 45-18 advantage.

Alexa Carter led the Lakers with seven points and five rebounds. Nicole Schmitt added five points.

The Rockets, 1-0, will host Ludington next Tuesday. The Lakers, 1-1, will travel to Montague next Tuesday.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

WHITEHALL 39, RAVENNA 31 – Charley Klint led the Vikings to victory against the Bulldogs with 16 points and six rebounds with Ashley Tenbrink adding seven points.

Whitehall led 13-7 after one quarter, 24-15 at halftime, and 34-17 after three.

The Vikings improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the West Michigan Conference. They will play Newaygo next Tuesday. Ravenna is now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

SHELBY 47, NORTH MUSKEGON 18 – Kendall Zoulek outscored the North Muskegon girls, putting up 22 points to lead the Tigers to victory.

Shelby led 16-6 after the first quarter, 22-10 going into halftime, and entered the fourth quarter with a 37-14 lead.

Molly Stewart and Emma Saint Germain each scored five points to lead the Norse.

The Tigers improved to 1-1 for the season, with a 1-0 record in the West Michigan Conference. North Muskegon is 0-1 overall and in conference play.

HART 59, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 12 – The Pirates swarmed MCC immediately, using their defense to hold the Spartans to three points in the first quarter, and taking a 23-3 lead headed into the second.

Hart had a 21-3 edge in the second quarter and led 44-6 at halftime, then held the Spartans to six points total in the second half.

Jayd Hovey led the Pirates’ charge with 13 points, nine steals, five assists, and five rebounds. Aspen Boutell added 11 points and three steals, Abby Hicks had 10 points, five assists, and four steals, and Addi Hovey snagged six more steals.

The win puts Hart at 1-0, MCC is 0-1.

MONTAGUE 52, OAKRIDGE 36 – Kendall Osborne led the Wildcats to victory with 19 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Haylee Schwarz followed with 12 points and seven rebounds, and Claire Meacham totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Montague led 9-6 in the first quarter and entered halftime leading 22-15. The Wildcats held a 30-27 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Anna Lundquist led the Eagles with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. Destyni Lane added six points to Oakridge’s total.

The Montague girls are now 2-0 for the season with a conference record of 1-0, while Oakridge fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the West Michigan Conference.

NON-CONFERENCE

LUDINGTON 57, ZEELAND EAST 37 – RyAnn Rohrer led the Orioles to victory with 22 points on the night, closely followed by Keelyn Laird with 20.

The Ludington girls closed the first quarter with a 10-9 lead, entered halftime leading 30-19, and took a 46-28 lead by the end of the third.

The Orioles are now 2-0 on the season. They will play Reeths-Puffer next Tuesday.

SAUGATUCK 49, FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 46 – The two teams came out even in the first quarter, with Saugatuck taking a 14-12 lead at the end of the frame.

In the second, Saugatuck turned it up a notch and had a 28-22 lead at halftime. In the third, Fruitport went on a run and took the lead going into the fourth, 39-36. But Saugatuck used a 13-7 run down the stretch to regain the edge and seal up the win.

Fruitport Calvary was led by Cate Anhalt with 19 points along with four rebounds and four steals. McKena Wilson added 13 points and four assists while Reagan Payton chipped in six points.

The loss puts Calvary Christian at 0-1 on the season.

ZION CHRISTIAN 52, ORCHARD VIEW 26 – Elizabeth Estelle led Orchard View with 12 points and seven rebounds, with Mia Martin adding six points and eight rebounds.

Zion Christian took a 7-4 lead after the first quarter, led 25-10 at halftime, and closed out the third quarter 35-19.

The Cardinals are now 0-2 for the season. They will play Tri-Unity Christian next Tuesday.
