Reeths-Puffer hockey team captain Andrew Bouwman opened the season in a great way on Friday, scoring a three-goal hat trick on his birthday to lead the Rockets to a 5-2 victory over Kenowa Hills.
Bouwman scored two of his goals in the third period, helping the Rockets break a 2-2 tie and pull away for the win.
Kenowa Hills led 2-1 after one period, with goals from Ryan Freres and Brock Hearth. Bouwman scored for the Rockets.
R-P’s Landon Patterson had the lone goal of the second period, and the game was knotted 2-2 headed into the third.
The Rockets put the game away by exploding for three goals in the third period. Bouwman added two more goals and Jacob Pierce also found the net for the Rockets.
Isaiah Winters. Croix Klint and Josh Shafer each had assists for Reeths-Puffer.
The Rockets won despite being outshot by a wide margin, 57-22.
R-P, 1-0 on the season, will play Mona Shores on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Lakeshore.
