The Whitehall volleyball team fell just short of winning the GMAA City Tournament on Saturday after losing to Western Michigan Christian in the finals in five sets.
The Vikings advanced to the finals after beating Montague in the quarterfinals and Mona Shores in the semifinals.
Rayne Thompson led Whitehall with 75 kills while Charley Klint added 45. Maggie Evans chipped in with 138 assists and had six aces.
The Vikings were paced defensively by Thompson with 34 digs, Ryleigh Mott with 30 and Evan, who had 20. Thompson and Sidney Shepherd each contributed with seven blocks.
Whitehall is now 26-4-2 overall on the season.
Mona Shores finishes in third place
The Sailors posted a 2-1 record at the GMAA Tournament, defeating Fruitport (25-14, 26-24) in the quarterfinals before falling to Whitehall (21-25, 20-25) in the semifinals match.
Mona Shores then bounced back with a victory over host Reeths-Puffer (25-22, 25-23) in the final match of the morning.
Grace Norris led the Sailors with 22 kills, 22 assists, 27 digs and four blocks on the day while Kyann Hellmann added 31 assists and 10 digs. Anabeth Hylland chipped in with 15 kills and 18 digs.
Mona Shores is now 15-17-1 on the season and 5-3 in conference play.
Montague drops both matches at GMAA
The Wildcats lost to Fruitport (25-12, 25-19) and Whitehall (25-23, 25-23) at the GMAA Tournament.
Anastasia Trevino led Montague with 14 kills while Jaelyn Sundberg chipped in with 30 assists.
The Wildcats were led defensively by Morgan Netcott with 30 digs.
Fruitport wins final two matches after losing its quarterfinal contest
The Trojans bounced back after losing to Mona Shores (14-25, 23-26) in the quarterfinals of the GMAA on Saturday.
Fruitport defeated both Montague (25-12, 25-19) and North Muskegon (25-20, 25-21) to go 2-1 in the tournament and improve to 21-16 overall on the season.
Sydney Woods led the Trojans with 25 kills while Kylie Rudolph had 15. Raegan Dykstra added 54 assists.
Woods also led in aces with seven.
Anna Bol paced Fruitport defensively with 32 digs.
North Muskegon goes 1-2 at GMAA Tournament
The Norse fell to Reeths-Puffer (21-25, 14-25), defeated Oakridge (25-18, 25-22) and then lost to Fruitport (20-25, 21-25) on Saturday.
Natalie Pannucci led North Muskegon with 13 kills while Sami Baker chipped in with 22 assists. Baker, Joslynne Bogner and Molly Stewart each had four aces.
The Norse were paced defensively by Baker and Megan Houseman with 17 digs each.
