It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, so the Reeths-Puffer volleyball team had a great Saturday.

The Rockets lost their first two matches but won their last three, and won the top spot in the Silver bracket at the Mona Shores Invitational.

Reeths-Puffer lost to Grand Rapids West Catholic 24-26, 21-25 and Hudsonville 10-25, 16-25, before beating Calvin Christian 25-21, 25-8, Forest Hills Eastern 21-25, 25-14, 15-7, and Spring Lake 25-17, 25-18.

Brianna Stawski had 45 kills and 11 blocks for the Rockets, Allie McManus had 84 assists and 27 digs, and Sophia Hekkema served nine aces.

Reeths-Puffer is now 18-14 on the season.

WMC  goes 4-1 at Traverse City tournament

The Western Michigan Christian volleyball team had another good day on Saturday, finishing 4-1 and in second place at the Traverse City Central Invitational.

WMC lost to Marquette, the eventual tournament champion, in straight sets, but then went on to beat Mattawan (25-21, 26-24), Traverse City Central (25-15, 10-25, 18-16), Leland (25-22, 25-18) and Elk Rapids (25-19, 25-19).

Ashley Binnendyk had 32 service points and eight aces for WMC. Kyla Wiersema had 46 kills and 39 digs, Libby Mast had 13 blocks, and Kendal Young served up 81 assists,

The Warriors are now 35-5 on the season.

Kent City posts a sparkling 4-0 mark at its Dig Pink tournament

The Kent City volleyball team had a perfect day on Saturday, posting a 4-0 record at its own Dig Pink Invitational tournament.

The Eagles won every set in their four matches. They defeated Orchard View 25-14, 25-20, 25-7, Central Montcalm 25-20, 25-12, 25-16, Central Montcalm again in the semifinals 25-12, 25-17, and Oakridge in the finals 25-13, 25-19.

Emmalyn Geers paced Kent City on the day with 27 kills, 13 aces and seven blocks. Kaila Krueger had 67 assists and 44 digs,

The Eagles are now 21-4-1 on the season.

Mona Shores wins one, loses two at home

The Mona Shores volleyball team posted a 1-2 record at its own invitational tournament on Saturday.

The Sailors lost to Portage Central 25-27, 21-25, beat Forest Hills Eastern 25-13, 25-13, and lost to Zeeland East 22-25, 21-25.

Grace Norris played a big role on offense for the Sailors, leading with 22 kills as well as 32 assists. Kyann Hellmann had 23 digs while Anabeth Hylland had three blocks.

Mona Shores is now 12-16-1 on the season.

Montague has a rough day at Lakeview Invitational

Saturday was a rough day for the Montague volleyball team, which posted an 0-4 record at the Lakeview Invitational.

The Wildcats lost to Harper Creek 9-25, 25-20, 10-15; Okemos 9-25, 25-23, 7-15; Forest Hills Northern 18-25, 13-15 and Caledonia 23-25, 22-25.

Anastasia Trevino was tops in kills for the Wildcats with 20. Jaelyn Sundberg had 47 assists and Ally Collins served four aces. Defensively Morgan Netcott had 44 digs and Trevino had eight blocks.

Whitehall posts 2-1-1 mark at Jenison Invitational

The Whitehall volleyball team posted a 2-1-1 record at Saturday’s Jenison Invitational, which had a 16-team field.

The Vikings beat Durand and Grand Rapids South Christian, split with Coopersville and lost to Forest Hills Central in the tournament semifinals.

Rayne Thompson paced the Vikings with 60 kills and nine aces, Maggie Evans had 140 assists, Ryleigh Mott contributed 42 digs and Sidney Shepherd and Thompson both had five blocks.
