One big scoring explosion in the second period – highlighted by a head-spinning three-goal blitz within one minute – gave the Muskegon Lumberjacks a big 6-3 victory over the Madison Capitols in the first of two weekend games at Trinity Health Arena.
The teams exchanged single goals in the first period.
Madison’s Landon McSwain found the net 9:25 into the period, then Muskegon’s Drew Fox evened the score with a goal at the 14:55 mark.
The Jacks pulled ahead at 1:08 of the second period on a goal by Maxim Simko.
Madison jumped out to a 3-2 lead when Bode McConnell and Logan Lutner scored at the 1:23 and 4:04 marks, respectively.

That’s when the Lumberjacks’ offense really came alive, scoring four unanswered goals within 10 minutes of the second period.
Fox started things off with his second goal of the game at the 5:39 mark.
The came the rapid fire goals, all coming within one minute.
Zaac Charbonneau scored his fourth goal of the season at 14:32, Felix Farhammer followed at 15:15, and Anthony Thomas-Maroon capped it off at 15:30, putting the Jacks up 6-3 after two periods.
There was no scoring in the third period.
Muskegon goalie Oscar Westman stopped 45 of 48 shots on a busy night to get the win.
Madison had a 48-32 advantage in shots on goal.
The Lumberjacks improved to 3-2 on the season. They will host the Capitols again on Saturday night in Muskegon.
