The Fruitport volleyball team got a little bit of revenge on Saturday.

Last year the Trojans advanced to the regional finals and played Fremont, with a chance to move on to the state quarterfinals. But they lost to the Packers in five grueling sets, ending their season.

On Saturday the two teams met again in the Best of the West Invitational at Mona Shores High School, and this time Fruitport came out on top.

The Trojans, who are somehow not mentioned in the state rankings, downed the ranked Packers in a best 2 of 3 match, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22.

Emma Fecher

Fruitport also beat Kalamazoo Central 25-22, 25-17 and Benton Harbor 25-5, 25-5.

The Trojans’ only loss came to state-ranked Western Michigan Christian, 19-25, 25-22, 17-25.

Izzy Hanson-Wilbur once again led Fruitport 35 kills and seven aces on the day, and had 47 digs defensively.

Addison Bordeaux added 21 kills and Josalynn Nowicki had eight while Porter Johnson served seven aces. Emma Fecher had 43 assists and Alexa Sweet had 37.

Maycee Hall

Maycee Hall totaled 39 digs and Fecher had 32.

“We found a lot of success today while playing up to our potential,” said Fruitport coach Samantha Fehler, whose team had some girls in new positions. “Everyone stepped up and played with a lot of grit.

“I’m incredibly proud of how our team came together and rose to the challenge. It’s not easy working through a new lineup, but they all played for each other.”

Fruitport, how 21-6-2, will host NorthPointe Christian on Thursday in a big O-K Silver conference match.mini
