A four-goal second period barrage spoiled the Muskegon Lumberjacks’ great start on Saturday, and they ended up falling 5-4 to the Chicago Steel.
The Jacks ended up dropping both weekend games in Chicago. They are now 3-4-1 on the season.
The Jacks will return home next weekend to play the Youngstown Phantoms,6 starting Friday at 7:10 p.m. at Trinity Health Arena.
The first period was ve7ry good for Muskegon. Anthony Thomas-Maroon opened the scoring with his second goal of the season at the 6:35 mark.
Muskegon added a power play goal from Drew Fox, his third of the season, 12:46 into the first to give the Jacks a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The Steel responded with four unanswered goals in the second period, from Matyas Svrcek (5:20), Patrick Tolan (9:24), Nolan Shorter (13:12) and Joe Erickson (14:53).
The Lumberjacks cut their deficit in half with Maxim Simko’s second goal of the season, 15:13 into the second period.
Chicago led 4-3 heading into the third.
Muskegon tied the game 4-4 with a goal from Gustas Zemaitis, his first of the season, 36 seconds into the third period.
M.J. Campbell scored the game-winning goal for the Steel 6:45 into the third period.
Muskegon outshot the Steel 35-31. Jacks goalie Samuel Doyon-Cataquiz suffered the loss, stopping 26 of 31 shots.
The Lumberjacks went 1-for-3 on their power play while Chicago didn’t have any power plays.
