The Reeths-Puffer girls golf team has a lot of ambitious goals this season, and one is winning the championship in the always tough O-K Green conference.
The Rockets put themselves in position to compete for the title on Monday when they finished in second place at the first of five conference jamborees, played at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.
R-P shot a team score of 179, only two points behind first-place Caledonia. Byron Center, Jenison and Mona Shores finished in the final three spots in the standings.

The Rockets had the two top individual golfers at the event, and three of the top 10.
Senior Sophia McCollum took first place overall with an even-par score of 37. She birdied on three holes.
Senior Olivia Ambler celebrated her birthday by shooting a 40 and finishing second. She also birdied two holes.
Senior Ella Voorhies finished shot a 47 and finished in ninth place.

A new player, junior Kayleigh Brown, broke into varsity golf by shooting a 55 for the Rockets’ final score.
Freshmen Abby Davis and Tala Johnson also competed, shooting scores of 61 and 67, respectively.
“Overall it was a very good night for the team,” said R-P head coach Matt Pallett. “The three seniors led the way with top 10 finishes. Sophia and Olivia played great and Ella had a good stretch of golf tonight, as well. We will continue to rely on those three as the other players keep developing.
“It was a great debut for Kayleigh Brown. She wasn’t overly happy with her final score, but I see a lot of upside in her game. She is a great addition to the team.”
