The Fruitport boys soccer team is now one game away from clinching at least a share of its third straight O-K Silver conference championship.

The Trojans improved to 5-0-1 in conference play with an easy 9-1 victory over Belding on Tuesday.

Quincy McDaniels led the Trojan attack with three goals while Hayden Taylor also had a strong night with two goals.

Also scoring for Fruitport were Mads Naenen, Adriel Fernandez and Paxton Harrison.

Hudson Hazekamp piled up three assists for the Trojans while Gavin Wilson, Olsen Stone and Jayden Barnett each had one.

Fruitport goalkeepers Sebastian Sweet and Sam Tompkins each picked up a save in the victory.

“I was happy with the team effort,” said Fruitport head coach Dan Hazekamp. “Very little of my happiness had to do with scoring goals. I thought our guys were unselfish with one another and engaged in the game.”

Fruitport, now 12-1-3 overall, can clinch at least a share of the conference crown with a win over Godwin Heights at home on Thursday.

The O-K Silver conference tournament, which also factors into the championship formula, begins next week.
